Our Story

Original Barbershop was founded in October 2015 by Greg Sysoyev as a way of bringing back the classic barbershop to the historic Lower East Side and East Village.

With a vision of a neighborhood establishment where the customers who grew tired of a girl-friend hair salon or Mom stylist would have a chance to relax and be catered to while surrounded by an atmosphere of an old fashioned club. The patrons are invited to step back in time and enjoy an old-school hot-towel shave, gentlemen scissor-cuts with razor-shaved neck followed by a splash of cologne while watching the big games and discussing current events. Our master barbers still believe in the timeless tradition of great customer service, like knowing their customers by name, remembering their preferences but most of all giving great haircuts and shaves.

In essence, making them feel like a new man.

From the chair

I’ve been in Greg’s chair for over a year. He cuts it the same way every visit, and I leave with the haircut I asked for.

Clean fade, razor-shaved neck, and they don’t rush the details. I walked in on a Saturday and the cut still looked right the next week.

The hot-towel shave is the real thing, and the room feels like a neighborhood shop. I keep coming back, and I’ve started sending friends.
